Brand new Butta

I remember wanting to make chill, soulful pieces with hard beats. I don't think I got there. My drums were always quantized to death and stiff.

Recorded around the same time as Letting Go, Brand new Butta was a jazzy, chill idea I recorded in the winter...maybe close to Christmas. I really hated fake sax sounds from a keyboard, but I thought this one was somewhat decent.

The way I worked at the time, and I guess the way I still work, is quite spontaneous. I find a groove and maybe I play the some of the instruments for the whole song or, for many bars in hopes of capturing variation. But...I never plan what I play. It's all spontaneous. I might loops some elements... Then... I just add a spontaneous solo. I never write a song. I just play it and arrange the bits I like, if that makes any sense.
