into the night (part 2)

from Letters to Kyoto by Man in a Loft

/

about

Here, things got a bit more interesting.

Unlike the openness of part 1, I wanted a bass, but not a bass sound. I needed a beat. There were a plethora of interesting acoustic percussion sounds I wanted to be sure to incorporate. This needed to be a meeting of the ultra modern and the ultra ancient.

Devin is playing much of the plucky solo which runs through the entire piece. This was intentionally left human and untouched. I thought Kyoto needed to be quite human (perfectly imperfect), even though there is this aspect of precise beauty.

Using Emi's vocals here just seemed to be the only decision for the song. It should open and close with her.

I really love this piece and am happy to have had the opportunity to work with everyone to make it.

Thank you! :)
