into the night (part 1)

about

Fate.
Destiny.
Happenstance?

That's the best way I can describe the way this piece came to be.

In brief, Alan sent me a few audio tracks from Kyoto, some drumming and two sets of vocals by the lovely, Emi Ogura. When Alan and I talked, he thought it would be a good idea for me to use Emi's vocals on a piece.

I thought it would be cool to get some local musicians involved and that's how Devin joined! Devin really helped define how the piece would unfold, dynamically and in two parts.

Most of the piano was semi-spontaneous riffs I played here and there. For some reason the computer kept crashing while we were working on this, so I had to replay things to the best of my ability over and over again.

This piece was pleasant happenstance and I am honored to have the opportunity to work with everyone to make this.
